one i don't like as much

This one for me is a no go. Unlike the 'Source' there is no apparent color scheme on the cover and for me this a main convention of what should be on a magazine. 

The front cover image also covers some of the writing which with popular magazines were people are already well aware of what the writing is, for example on a cover of the 'Rolling Stones' music magazine a celebrities head covers some of the title. This is fine as 'Rolling Stones' will already have a well established fan base. Also the use of many different fronts on the cover takes away the continuity that magazines should have. 

It also detracts from the professional look that other school magazines have managed to establish.

The back ground is also very busy which distracts from the writing on the front cover. 

The title also has no use of capital letters which completely opposes basic English. As well as having no capital letters its size ratio to the main headline is smaller leading some readers to believe that magazine is called 'New Humanities Building!'

The inconsistency of the font also helps in lessoning the professional feel of the magazine as it uses Serif and Sans Serif fonts which are conflicting. This doesn't follow magazine conventions wouldas other magazines would keep the consistency for a professional look. 

Some of the font is also quite hard to read which means some readers wouldn't bother to work out what it says. 

The cross dissolve of pictures at the top does look good and effective which is something i like about the magazine.

The use of the school logo next to the title does make it look more conventional and gives it a more authoritative look.

This is one of the best school magazines I found! I think the conventions of a school magazine should be quite simple and formal in comparison to tabloid magazines such as 'More'. though it should also follow some of the more generic magazine conventions. 

The consistent color scheme of the cover gives it a professional feel and the simple picture thats been 

graphically edited isn't to busy to distract from the information.

The title is bold and stands out drawing to readers attention directly to it, this is what a magazine should do as you need to know the name of it. 

The pink colored writing at the bottom right is in my opinion what lets the cover down. It reads in 

continuous prose which isn't how i believe it should be read. Slightly letting the cover down. 

The main headline is central to the cover and the odd shapes and bright colors attract the readers attention straight way.

The small burst in the corner will appeal to some readers as it is a well known television character and people like when they see things they know, hence why famous celebrities are on the covers of commercial magazines. 

The writing used is sans serif which gives the magazine a less formal look but as it should maybe appeal to children, this is a good thing. 

The two faces on the cover appear to be headteachers from the school which means that the pupils and parents will know who they are mimicking a 'celebrity' status. 

The plain white background makes the magazine look clean and allows the reader to see clearly what is on the page.

 The magazine isn't one to be sold which i why, unlike a real magazine, the cover doesn't have a barcode or price. This is because its a school magazine and conventionally these won't be sold in shops.

The preliminary task we do on this course is to design a school magazine cover and draft a contents page. In order to do this we need to do some research. Thanks to the world wide web I am able to do it from the comfort of my media room seat. Love technology.
